Weekend Get-away

This weekend was just awesome. It was hot here on the West coast. Really hot! And it also happened to be the weekend that our new friends, Jim and Diana were getting married in a small service over-looking the beach in Sechelt, right at the heart of the Sunshine Coast. So the sun was guaranteed for their big day, right?

First thing was the ferry ride over to Gibsons. As usual this meant waiting at Horseshoe Bay for much longer than we wanted to even thought we had a reservation

To say that I am drawn to photographing water is an understatement. This time I was coming prepared, or so I thought, to do some long exposure shooting. Turns out I had everything I needed but one polarizing filter that I managed to forget on the shelf at home. Oh, that and the will to get up really early. Fortunately, the place we were staying at had a beautiful rocky shoreline. That was the first score. The other was that low tide was at about 4 am, so when I managed to pull my ass out of bed at 7, there was still plenty of nice rocks to shoot. The sunrise also came up behind the Hills and trees and that bought me quite a bit of time, as the rocks didn’t get into sun until about 7:30-7:45. I think the only downside was that there was not a cloud to be found in the sky either morning.

After an amazing morning Eating, Kayaking and Hiking we got ready for the beautiful service. It was a very special day for the Bride and Groom, and we were so honoured to be invited. After the service we had a very nice meal on a deck overlooking the water. As it got closer to sunset we all changed into Jeans and got ready for a campfire on the beach and S’mores. that’s right. #BEST.WEDDING.EVER!

It was quite windy so the photo’s took on a slightly more mystical look as the water had become fairly choppy and the boats were bobbing around a lot.

As it is June the evening stays light until after 10 PM so as the gang sat around the fire talking I set up the camera to take some star shots. This was my favourite.

Sunday morning brought time for some more landscapes and a few abstracts.
